1. What the site is
CornerFacts ("the site", "we") collects datasets that the City of Toronto, Toronto Police Service, Toronto Public Health, transit agencies and other public bodies release under open licences, joins them at the level of an intersection or a neighbourhood, and publishes the result — traffic counts, every police-reported collision, red-light cameras and their tickets, live traffic cameras, measured speeds, transit, parking, restaurants, washrooms, child care, apartment buildings and neighbourhood crime — on one page per place. Pages are generated automatically from the source data and rebuilt regularly; nothing is entered by hand. The methodology explains every rule used and the data page lists every source with its licence and refresh date.
The site is an independent project. It is not operated by, affiliated with or endorsed by the City of Toronto, Toronto Police Service, the Toronto Transit Commission, Metrolinx, Statistics Canada or any other publisher whose data it uses, and it is not an official record of any of them.
2. What the site is not
- Not advice. Nothing on the site is legal, insurance, engineering, road-safety, real-estate, investment or personal-safety advice. If a decision depends on one of these figures, confirm it with the publisher or a qualified professional first.
- Not a finding of fault or cause. Collision and killed-or-seriously-injured ("KSI") figures are counts of police-reported events, classified by the police; they say nothing about who was responsible or why an event happened. A high count almost always reflects high traffic volume, which is why volume is shown beside it.
- Not a safety rating. Rankings order intersections and neighbourhoods by a stated measure over a stated window (2016–2025); they are not an assessment of how dangerous or safe a place is for you.
- Not a live emergency or traffic service. Live camera images are the City's own public feed, published at low resolution and replaced every few minutes; cameras go offline, and the site may show a frame that is minutes old.
- Not a real-time record. Collision records can lag a year or more behind the event; crime rates are per resident and depend on the year the police last published; counts are from the City's most recent study at that location, which may be years old. Every page shows the date its data covers.
3. Accuracy and availability
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We take care with the joins and the wording, but we republish what the publishers publish, including their errors, gaps and delays, and our automated matching of records to places can itself be wrong (a collision snapped to the wrong node, a business geocoded to the wrong corner). We do not warrant that any figure is accurate, complete or current, and we may change, correct or remove any page or feature at any time without notice. The site may be unavailable from time to time.
If a figure looks wrong, check the source dataset linked at the bottom of the page first. Errors in our join or wording are ours and are fixed in the next rebuild once reported.
4. Data licences and how you may reuse the figures
The figures on the site come from datasets that remain the property of their publishers and are used under the licences those publishers grant — chiefly the Open Government Licence – Toronto for City of Toronto datasets, together with the licences of Toronto Police Service, the transit agencies, Statistics Canada and the other sources listed on the data page. Those licences allow free reuse, including commercial reuse, on condition that the publisher is credited and the data is not presented as endorsed by the publisher or as its official version.
You are welcome to quote figures from the site, and to link to any page, for any lawful purpose. When you do, please:
- credit the original publisher as its licence requires — for City data the required line is "Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Toronto.";
- credit CornerFacts as the place you found the figure, with a link to the page it came from, so readers can check the date and method behind it;
- not present the site's rankings or derived figures as official statistics or as a statement from any publisher.
Our own material — the text, page structure, design, code, rankings, aggregations and the way the datasets are joined — is © CornerFacts. Reproducing whole pages or substantial parts of the site, or copying the site's compiled data files (the map and search indexes) for republication, needs our written permission. Reasonable excerpts for news reporting, research, teaching and commentary, with attribution, do not.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use the site in a way that interferes with it or with the services behind it. In particular, do not:
- crawl or scrape it at a rate that degrades the service for others, or ignore
robots.txt; - use the site's camera-freshness function or the links to City camera images to make repeated automated requests to the City's servers;
- attempt to gain access to any part of the site or its hosting that is not intended to be public, or to disrupt its operation;
- use the site's name, logo or pages to suggest an affiliation or endorsement that does not exist, or to present altered figures as the site's own.
6. Third-party content and links
Pages include content served by others: the City of Toronto's live camera images, background maps from OpenFreeMap built on data © OpenStreetMap contributors, and links to open-data portals, transit agencies and to LandlordReport, a sister site that carries the full record of each apartment building. We do not control those sites or services, are not responsible for their content or availability, and linking to them is not an endorsement. Their own terms and privacy policies apply once you leave the site.
7. Trademarks
CornerFacts and its logo are ours. The names of the City of Toronto, Toronto Police Service, TTC, GO Transit, UP Express, VIA Rail, DineSafe, RentSafeTO, Green P, Bike Share Toronto and every other publisher, programme and agency mentioned belong to their owners and are used only to identify the source of the data.
8. Limitation of liability
The site is free and offered for general information. To the fullest extent permitted by law, CornerFacts and the people who run it are not liable for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or otherwise — arising from your use of the site or reliance on anything in it, including losses caused by errors, omissions or delays in the underlying data, by the site being unavailable, or by content on linked sites. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including the consumer-protection laws of Ontario.
9. Governing law
These terms and your use of the site are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute that cannot be resolved between us will be heard by the courts of Ontario.
10. Changes
We may update these terms as the site grows — when a new city is added, for example, or a new data source with its own licence conditions. The date at the top shows the current version; continued use after a change means you accept it. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
