Toronto’s most walkable intersections

Ranked by our within-a-walk score: how much of what the City's own records list — food premises, transit, a park, a school, a library, a safe crossing — sits within a walk of the corner. Every point comes from a City of Toronto record this site already publishes, and each intersection's page shows the full arithmetic. Shops, banks, gyms and clinics are in no City dataset, so they score nothing anywhere.

#1 is Bloor & Palmerston, scoring 98 of 100. The median Toronto intersection scores 48.

How the score is built. Six parts, adding to 100: groceries and food (30), transit (28), library and places to go (14), parks and recreation (10), schools and child care (8), and crossing on foot (10). It measures what you can reach, not how pleasant or how safe the walk is — pedestrian collisions are published separately on each page and deliberately left out, because a busy corner has both more shops and more collisions. The methodology states every rule; it is our own measure, not a licensed walkability rating.

Does it describe anything real? Compared against the 2021 Census, a neighbourhood's mean score tracks the share of its residents who walk to work with a rank correlation of 0.73 across all 158 Toronto neighbourhoods — better than population density alone manages (0.55). The methodology explains that test, and what the score still cannot see.

Highway ramps and collector-lane nodes are excluded. Pages exist for intersections the City has run a traffic count at, which is mostly arterials and commercial corners — so read a rank as "compared with the other corners on this site", not with every corner in Toronto. An intersection also scores only what the City's records show near it: a corner whose shops sit outside the search radius, or whose grocery has never had a DineSafe inspection, scores lower than it walks.
