Traffic is heaviest from the south: 7,390 northbound vehicles entered from that leg, 35% of the total, against 3,157 from the north. Most cyclists arrived from the north (279 of 691). Unusually, the morning peak is the heavier one — 1,925 vehicles in the hour from 8:00 a.m., 13% above the afternoon peak from 2:45 p.m. (1,711). On Parliament St between Distillery Lane and Gristmill Lane, 207 m from the corner, a 3-day count in April 2025 put the average speed at 31 km/h and the 85th-percentile speed at 43 km/h, with the fastest one in twenty at 49 km/h or more. That segment carries about 12,900 vehicles a day. Front St E between Princess St and Berkeley St measured slower: 30 km/h on average and an 85th percentile of 40 km/h (Mar 2022).
